Learn the art of dramatic performance to communicate creatively

The timeless study of dramatic performance provides venues in acting, politics, education, and other fields in which creative communication is key. More than simply reciting memorized material, performance artists inspire and motivate audiences through spoken and unspoken communication.

To prepare them for this broad and crucial career, PCC’s performance studies program equips students in verbal presentation, public speaking, and dramatic productions. The program emphasizes the development of logical thought and decision-making processes applicable for plays, speeches, and debates. Students also learn leadership techniques, various forms of verbal presentations, and critical-listening skills. To gain practical experience on stage, students perform in Vespers programs, dramatic productions in the Experimental Theater, and major stage productions in the Dale Horton Auditorium.

With this artistic and versatile degree, students can choose from a variety of career options such as theatre, education, and public relations or enter graduate school to specialize in a chosen field.

Graduate Perspective

“In high school, I enjoyed speech and drama and wanted to pursue it further, not knowing what I would do for a career. PCC’s program couldn’t have prepared me any more perfectly for my career! The work I did in oral interpretation, storytelling, and dramatic production classes at PCC was exactly what I needed for my job—I continually use tools gained at PCC in my work. ” Darrin Crow (’94 grad) Historic Village
