General Science

SC 101 Biological Science Survey (3) Students learn the basics in biological science. A study of plant biology as well as an in-depth survey of human anatomy and physiology is the focus of this course. This course will not count toward a science teaching field or science minor.

SC 102 Biological Science Survey (3) Students learn the basic concepts in biology beginning with a look at ecology and the environment. All the major animal phyla are studied as well as cell biology, including reproduction and genetics. This course will not count toward a science teaching field or science minor.

SC 141 Introduction to Astronomy (3) Students learn general principles and practical techniques in astronomy. Topics included are telescopes, the solar system, the constellations, stars, galaxies, and the measurement of time.

SC 211 General Science Survey (3) Prereq.: Sophomore or above; or freshman with a teaching field in science area. Students learn about the topics of meteorology, oceanography, astronomy, and geology. It also gives the Christian perspective of creation and evolution.

SC 212 General Science Survey (3) Prereq.: Sophomore or above. Students learn the basic concepts in physics and chemistry.

SC 271, 371, 471 Science Research (2 each) Prereq.: Sophomore or above with a major in biology, chemistry, pre-medicine, pre-pharmacy, or pre-physical therapy; and permission of the dean of the Division of Basic Sciences and Engineering. Students complete a documented scientific research experience in its elective internship. This is an 80-hour minimum summer research experience in an approved off-campus facility.

SC 341 Astronomy (3) Prereq.: Sophomore or above; or freshman with a teaching field in science area. This course covers the solar system, stars, and galaxies. Students learn about the physical tools of the astronomer. 2 hours lecture, plus lab. Spring sem.

SC 351-352 Physical Therapy Internship (2 each) Prereq.: BY 311. Students will complete a documented observation of a licensed physical therapist for a minimum of 40 hours. The student will take two different internships from the following choices: a hospital or rehabilitation center, a home healthcare setting, sports medicine center, or an outpatient-based center. Interterm, Post-term, and summer.

SC 398 Pre-Pharmacy Seminar (1) Prereq.: BY 111, 112, and credit for or concurrent enrollment in CH 211 and PY 201 or 211; junior or senior pre-pharmacy major. Students review topics in biology, chemistry and verbal reasoning in preparation for the Pharmacy College Admission Test (PCAT). Fall sem.

SC 399 Pre-Medicine Seminar (1) Prereq.: BY 111-112, and credit for or concurrent enrollment in CH 211 and PY 201 or 211; junior or senior biology, chemistry, or pre-medicine major. Students review topics in biology, chemistry, physics, and verbal reasoning in preparation for the Medical College Admission Test (MCAT). Fall sem.

SC 461-462 Biomedical Practicum (1 each) Prereq.: Senior, with a major in biology, chemistry, pre-medicine, pre-pharmacy, or pre-physical therapy; and permission of the dean of the Division of Basic Sciences and Engineering. Students receive practical biomedical experience in this elective internship. Students complete a documented participation in or observation of an approved off-campus health care facility for a minimum of 40 hours.
