Elementary Education Major
A Graduate’s Perspective
By taking specific classes on how to teach every subject in the elementary classroom, I feel that I am ready to teach anywhere that the Lord leads. The process of learning about curriculum, creating my own worksheets, tests, quizzes, and visuals was extremely valuable. This was evident when I was a summer missionary intern in Africa. Even with few teaching supplies and no textbooks, I was able to successfully teach my students letters, numbers, phonics, language skills, and most importantly, the Word of God. I was able to make many visuals and train nationals to teach so that they could continue the work after I left. Here in the States or on the foreign field, I am excited about taking the skills I’ve learned and using them to teach children. — Joelle, PCC 2008 Graduate

Elementary education majors use the best curriculum, methods, and equipment to prepare to teach. Classrooms at Pensacola Christian Academy become the students’ laboratory for learning how to teach. Students gain experience before beginning their elementary teaching internship—freshmen observe videotaped elementary classes; sophomores and juniors teach peers and some elementary classes for additional preparation.
