Speech Communications Education Major

Bachelor of Science Degree

Speech production

The speech communications education major acquires the knowledge and develops the skills to adequately equip high school students to be effective oral communicators and to use their speech talents and performing skills for the glory of God.

Students teach speech classes, oversee speech club, and work with students preparing for various speech programs.

Speech Repertoire: Students with a major or second teaching field in speech are required to enroll in SP 999 Speech Repertoire each semester after passing the sophomore platform except when taking SE 420 Secondary Teaching Internship.

Platform Evaluation and Recitals: Second-semester sophomores must pass DP 299 Sophomore Speech Communications Education Platform before being considered approved for a major in speech communications education. A public recital is given during the senior year. Students must complete application procedures for their recital with Coordinator of Productions by the appointed deadline.

Production Participation: All speech communications education majors must perform at least one role in a college play while a student at PCC. A speaking role in the dramatic production play will satisfy this requirement.

Academic Program Fee: $90 per semester or $22.50 per payment.

Second Teaching Field: Speech communications. DP 298 Sophomore Speech Communications Second Teaching Field Platform must be completed successfully and a recital given. See Speech Repertoire above. All students with a second teaching field in speech must perform at least one role in a college play while a student at PCC. A role in the dramatic production play will satisfy this requirement only if the student takes both DP 307 Introduction to Dramatic Production and DP 308 Fundamentals of Dramatic Production.
