Master of Fine Arts Degree in Dramatics [M.F.A.]

The purpose of this degree is to equip students for a life of platform productions including acting, directing, and the technical aspects of staging.

Objectives: Graduates of this program will be able to

  1. demonstrate an appreciation for dramatic literature as a result of an in-depth understanding of the text;
  2. create professional-quality stage productions with textual integrity;
  3. direct and stage performances which are aesthetically pleasing;
  4. write original scripts or adaptations of literary works for small groups and large ensemble productions;
  5. reflect a mastery of all these areas culminating in a production recital.

Students are taught from a traditional philosophy balancing the theory and technique of the discipline with practical application. Special emphasis is given to training students how to meet the artistic needs of Christian ministries and performance companies while maintaining a Christ-centered focus in their profession.

Residence Requirements

Pre-term, Fall, Spring, Summer, Fall, Spring, Fall, Spring, and an Interterm Session: A minimum of 33 months of residence work beginning with Pre-term session (Aug. 22–Sept. 2, 2011) is required. A dramatic production must be completed successfully and a thesis prepared before graduate work is completed.
