History class

Program Objectives

The goal of this scholarly education specialist program in educational administration is to provide expertise and practical application for those serving in Christian schools.

Requirements for the Ed.S.

The education specialist study consists of the mastery of a field of knowledge. A minimum of 36 credit hours beyond the master’s degree or 66 credit hours beyond the bachelor’s degree is required for the specialist degree. The general requirement is that the program should be unified in relation to a clear objective and that it be approved by the Graduate Committee of the PCC Graduate Studies Division. The course requirements for many advanced degrees vary from field to field and from student to student. A student’s course of study will be designed to meet his particular needs, taking into account his past academic preparation, his experience, and his local school ministry. Each student’s program will build upon his previous education.

All work must be completed within 5 consecutive years. The 5 years begins with the first course taken in the Education Specialist program.  For example, if the first course listed were taken summer 2009, the student must complete all requirements by August 2014.

Residence Requirements

The education specialist student will complete a minimum of 36 credit hours of course work post mater’s degree. A minimum of three 6-week summer semesters of residence work is required.

Distance Learning: Up to one third of course requirements may be completed through PCC’s distance-learning program with the remainder completed on campus.

See specific courses offered summer 2009.

Plan of Study

During each summer in residence, the applicant may enroll for up to five 3-credit courses. The Education Specialist degree will be conferred only upon those of strong character, displaying qualities of leadership and evidencing a high degree of scholarship in their chosen fields.
