Can I Really Work My Way through College?

A Beka Customer Service

Are you wondering if you’ll be able to handle a job and classes, too? What about time for social activities? With the variety of campus opportunities at PCC and class scheduling designed with you in mind, you can do both. Much of PCC’s student body works part-time and completes class assignments while still being able to enjoy social activities. Students gain practical experience working in many different areas such as dining services, maintenance, security, grounds, office areas, print shop, A Beka Academy, and more.

PCC's Work Assistance Program helps thousands of students pay for their college education.

College costs are often a deciding factor in choosing a college. PCC is very affordable at $6,500 for yearly tuition, room and board, but it can be more affordable with PCC's Work Assistance Program which allows eligible students to earn $2,240 — $3,710 each school year. Summer work opportunities are also available.

Students in this program gain practical experience in one of 48 different work areas such as dining services, maintenance, College office, or print shop.

"But what if I can't handle classes and a job, too?" It can be done. Over 1,800 students complete their class assignments and enjoy Collegian functions, Christian service, sports, and other activities while working part-time.

Here are Some Testimonies of Those Who Are—

Kendra, an Elementary Education major working in dining services, says, "Work Assistance is a great opportunity to get a good education and then graduate debt free. There is plenty of time for classes and friends, so it allows a good balance."

Melkin wrote, "Work assistance... has helped me work my way through college. Working from 12- to 20- hours a week during semesters, and working during summer and interterm [part of Christmas vacation] have helped me tremendously. It feels good when I can say, 'Mom, you do not have to worry about my school bill this semester, I will take care of it.' After working for a year, I could see the impact in my school bills and in my personal life. "

Rachel is thankful for work assistance: "Through the work assistance program on the campus of Pensacola Christian College, God enabled me to work during college so that I could graduate debt-free. While Philippians 4:19 does promise that the Lord will supply... my needs went far beyond my monetary need to pay for college. God showed me many areas that He wanted to shape in my life. He surrounded me with great people to work with and gave me the experience to improve my leadership skills. I have... made life-long friends during... [my] work on campus. If it had not been for the work program at PCC, I might have missed out on receiving a great Christian education."

Kristen said, "Each day [I worked] in the [A Beka Book] office not only assisted me in paying for my school bill, but it also assisted me in preparing for life. My education at PCC was not solely received in the classroom, but also on the job through the work assistance program."

Abigail enjoyed the work assistance program: "I worked all four years... at PCC... [in] Dining Services.... I made a lot of fantastic friendships at work, some of which will last a lifetime. Dining Services was [great because of] the flexibility in scheduling it offered. I was able to add more shifts if I needed to work more [and my supervisor] was so helpful in making my class schedule [coordinate] with my work schedule. I am extremely thankful to have worked with some incredible supervisors.... These wonderful people, along with my... coworkers, are what made the work program at PCC such an exceptional experience."
