No Regrets for Eagles Teams

No Regrets Eagles

It took a lot of work, focus, and dependence on God, but the Eagles and both Lady Eagles basketball and volleyball teams exceeded last season’s achievements, ending in trips to regionals and nationals for the teams.

No Regrets for Eagles Teams Awards

Though the Eagles had a young team, with nine of their top twelve being freshmen or sophomores, Coach Mark Goetsch said, “These young guys learned fast and adapted to the college game.”

Their goal was to compete well in the NCCAA regional tournament. They competed well enough to claim the regional championship and move on to Division II nationals for the first time, where they came in seventh. They finished the season strong with a 21–14 record, beating last year’s record of 19–11.

The Lady Eagles basketball team lived up to the theme they chose at the beginning of the season: “No excuses. No regrets.”

“We are trying to build a winning tradition here at PCC,” Coach Jared Sellars said. “The Lady Eagles won 7 games two years ago and then 14 games last year.”

Determined to win at least 20 games, the Lady Eagles ended the season at 21–12. But exceeding their goal was only the beginning—they won the regional championship and finished fourth at their first trip to nationals.

The Lady Eagles volleyball team also enjoyed a successful season, ending with a trip to regionals and a 19–6 record.

At nationals, the following Eagles and Lady Eagles players received awards:

  • Ashley Goins–first team All-American and MVP of the South Region
  • Mike Goetsch–first team All-American and Player of the Year in the South Region
  • Alyssa Loudermilk–honorable mention All-American
  • Karen Kendall–scholar athlete

  • Vienna Skinner–second team All-American
  • Courtney Wilson–scholar athlete

At the Eagles awards banquet, coaches handed out awards to defensive and offensive players of the year, most improved player, and most valuable player. Also, to honor his twentieth year with the Eagles, Coach Goetsch was presented the net from regionals, framed in an attractive plaque.

To both Eagles teams, the entire PCC family could echo Coach Sellars’s sentiments: “I am truly blessed to have a team with so much heart and determination. I’m very proud of them.”
