Adventure and Comedy Share Center Stage
This year, the dramatic production classes put on two productions prepared and performed by students. Tell Me an Adventure Story featured excerpts from The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, The Adventures of Huck Finn, The Borrowers, Sherlock Holmes: A Study in Scarlet, Winnie the Pooh: A Balloon for Honey, and Peter Pan. The most memorable moment of the evening was the sword fight at Skull Rock between Peter Pan and Captain Hook. The duel’s intricate choreography took the actors over 20 hours of rehearsal. Watching blades clash and pirates dash, the audience felt as if they had joined Peter in Neverland.
The second production took the audience to the old West in the classic M’Liss (My Western Miss): A Comedy in Three Acts. For the first time, the Experimental Theater’s walls were painted in plaid, and the cement floor appeared to be wooden planks. The audience enjoyed watching the innocent heroine and her goodhearted beau prevail over the sinister villain, and as in all good Westerns, evil was brought to justice, and the couple lived happily ever after.
