The 2020 Connection
Every student needs something to plug into—a way to connect with other people. Enter this year’s all-new 2020 Connection for PCC’s freshman class.
“Our goal was to give the incoming class of 2020 an opportunity to meet one another in a comfortable setting,” explained Rachel Moses, Student Activities coordinator. “And the turnout far exceeded our expectations.”
The idea for the event came from the class of 2019 who wished they’d had the opportunity to get to know other freshmen right away and get established on campus quickly.
Students who went to the 2020 Connection in the Commons were greeted by friendly upperclassmen plus the aroma of fresh chocolate chip cookies.
The event, held every night of opening weekend, gave freshmen a casual place to make new friends on their very first day on campus. Some students came back night after night just to meet more people.
Katie Hutt, a freshman from Massachusetts, said, “Other students were all around me talking about their class schedules and making breakfast plans. I met people from my home state within a couple minutes! I’m so glad I decided to go, because I gained some pretty cool friends.”
The New Student Connection event at the Sports Center followed a week later, buzzing with conversation, activities, selfies, and—best of all—FREE pizza.
It’s been an exciting kickoff to our semester, and we’re looking forward to a great 2016–2017 school year here on campus!
