PCC’s search engine supports a number of different methods for performing searches:
Description Search
Simply describe the information that you want. For example, “Requirements for graduation.”
Question Search
Ask a question that you want answered. For example, “What are the requirements for graduation?”
Keyword Search
List important keywords relevant to your search topic. For example, “requirement graduation”
Conditional Keyword Search
Refine a keyword search using conditional symbols.
Symbol Meaning Action & AND Finds only documents containing all of the specific words or phrases. For example, “requirement & graduation” finds documents with both the word “requirement” and the word “graduation”. | OR Finds documents containing at least one of the specified words or phrases. For example, “requirement | graduation” finds documents containing either “requirement” or “graduation”. The found documents could contain both words, but do not have to. ! AND NOT Excludes documents containing the specific word or phrase. For example, “graduation ! requirements” finds documents containing “graduation” but not containing “requirements”. As with the & and | symbols, ! must appear between two terms. [ ] Grouping Used to group portions of conditional queries together for more complicated queries. For example, “requirement & [graduation | commencement]” finds documents containing “requirement” and either “graduation” or “commencement”.
