Classic Christmas Characters on Campus

Recently, audiences spotted the Grinch, the Nutcracker, and Charlie Brown’s crew in the Experimental Theater as part of the Tell Me a Christmas Story Dramatic Production series.

This year’s production featured five student dramas: A Charlie Brown Christmas, directed by Jessie Ross; A Christmas Carol, directed by Chris Rogers; How the Grinch Stole Christmas, directed by Sam Light; The Christmas Nutcracker, directed by Lisa Seltzer; and The Gift of the Magi, directed by Katie Andrews. These productions were part of the requirements for Dramatic Production classes offered within the Performance Arts department. Students directed everything from initial concept to final rehearsal.

The audience laughed to see Lucy’s Psychiatric Help Booth, the Whos with outlandish costumes and hair, Bob Cratchit’s family singing “God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen” around their meager Christmas dinner, and the humorous dialogue between Jim and Della in The Gift of the Magi.

All four showings were packed with students, faculty, and guests. When the lights came up, the audience exited, laughing and chattering about their favorite highlights, no doubt already looking forward to next semester’s performance.
