Biblical Counseling: Helping the Hurting

In a world of increasing confusion, anxiety, and frustration, God calls Christians to be a light and extend a hand to people in need. Some are even led to pursue a ministry as a full-time biblical counselor—one who has studied the Word and can provide hope and comfort to those who are searching. The biblical counseling concentration from Pensacola Christian College can help you achieve your unique goals.

You’ll learn from credentialed, dedicated faculty who have years of diverse counseling experiences to pass on. Identify and view the world’s issues through a biblical lens and apply scriptural truths to everyday struggles. As you prepare for a true ministry that can change lives through the hope of the gospel, you’ll gain confidence in your skills through practical application. Classes like Theology of Biblical Counseling and The Biblical Counselor will present a holistic view of your role as a counselor and how you can make a difference in the lives of others.

Biblical Counseling Concentration Learning Outcomes

As a biblical counseling graduate, you will be able to

  • demonstrate thorough knowledge of the content and themes of the Word of God,
  • defend sound doctrine,
  • evaluate current issues in light of biblical teaching,
  • develop a biblical philosophy of ministry,
  • present biblical truth correctly and clearly, and
  • provide biblical counseling to individuals in a variety of ministry contexts.

Program Highlights

Biblical Counseling for Men and Biblical Counseling for Women

Develop a strong foundation of biblical counseling knowledge as you examine a variety of issues in realistic counseling scenarios pertaining to the modern Christian (PR 352 for men; PR 354 for women). Highly practical coursework and discussion times will teach you to create comprehensive biblical counseling plans for your future counselees.

Theology of Biblical Counseling

Expand your knowledge with an in-depth look (BI 327) at the strong biblical and theological themes found in the Scripture. Your roadmap to using major Bible doctrines and counseling principles to practically assist those who come to you for guidance—learn how you can make a difference in a fallen world.

Your Biblical Counseling Future

What can you do with a biblical counseling concentration?

When you graduate with a biblical counseling concentration, you’ll have a specific skill set to use wherever the Lord leads you. Whether in a formal counseling position or to aid those around you in a separate ministry or career, you’ll be equipped to guide and encourage the lost and hurting. You can also pursue options like higher education or certification post-graduation. While this degree does not prepare a student for state licensure, graduates could continue toward certification through the Association of Certified Biblical Counselors (ACBC).

”My goal is to instruct students to have a biblical worldview as they help people who need guidance. Churches are increasingly in need of biblical counselors to help their congregations through addictions and struggles in their personal lives. Our degree prepares students to help meet this need. We want to teach students that the Bible is sufficient to meet every need that people have as they navigate through challenges in their personal lives.

The biblical counseling concentration will prepare students for future careers in ministry through church staff positions (including pastoral positions for our men) as well as becoming biblical counselors in Christian schools. Prospective students who want to counsel others should consider [this] concentration.“

About the Biblical Counseling Concentration

The purpose of the biblical counseling concentration is to provide students with skills necessary to minister to others from a biblical foundation with a counseling philosophy and methodology based upon the sufficiency of Scripture.
