AR 506 Current Issues in Art (3) Offered on campus: Spring. Students examine contemporary issues in the visual arts and analyze how they relate to a biblical philosophy of art and to the student’s work.

AR 515 Art History (3) Offered on campus: Fall even. This course focuses on the history of illustration with information on related topics such as philosophy and aesthetics.

AR 516 Art History (3) Offered on campus: Fall odd. Students examine the history of visual art and architecture as it relates to the major civilizations of Western culture. Students learn the artistic motivations and fluctuating standards of aesthetics of these civilizations from a Christian perspective.

AR 519 Graduate Graphic Design (3) Offered on campus: Fall. Selected topics in graphic design will be the focus of this course. The student will learn and apply extensive training and experience in graphic techniques found in the publishing and advertising community.

AR 520 Graduate Drawing (3) Offered on campus: Fall. Students develop professional drawing methods for illustrative and fine arts presentation through creation of several original works from life, personal-reference materials of the full-length costumed figure, narratives, imagination, and memory work.

AR 521–522 Graduate Painting (3 each) Offered on campus: Fall, Spring. Students will develop advanced techniques of painting in media such as oil, gouache, and watercolor in their specific areas of interest.

AR 526 3-Dimensional Design (3) Offered on campus: Spring. The graduate artist explores the application of three-dimensional elements, techniques, and mediums as they relate to individual artistic direction. Students create an original three-dimensional work, write an accompanying research paper, and make a digital presentation of their work.

AR 531 Advanced Digital Graphics (3) Offered on campus: Fall. Students utilize digital tools to develop graphics for use in their design portfolio.

AR 532 Web Design (3) Offered on campus: Spring. Competency: Web Programming. The graduate student will develop creative solutions to common web-related design problems, utilizing industry-standard software applications.

AR 533 Conceptual Communication for the Visual Artist (3) Offered on campus: Fall. Students develop creative problem-solving processes with an emphasis on clear visual communication with mastery of individual technique.

AR 534 Advanced Conceptual Communication (3) Offered on campus: Spring. Prereq.: AR 533. Students create advanced-level projects with an emphasis on clear visual communication with mastery of individual technique.

AR 551–552 Graduate Studio—Graphic Design (3 each) Offered on campus: Fall, Spring. Prereq. for AR 551: Student in M.A. degree in graphic design. Prereq. for AR 552: AR 551. These courses allow the graduate student to develop particular areas of interest in design while building a portfolio for the M.A. show. Individual projects will be approved by instructor.

AR 553–554 Graduate Studio—Studio Art (3 each) Offered on campus: Fall, Spring. Prereq. for AR 553: Student in M.A. degree in studio art. Prereq. for AR 554: AR 553. These courses allow the graduate student to develop particular areas of interest in art while building a portfolio for the M.A. show. Individual projects will be approved by instructor.

AR 560 Graduate Show—Graphic Design (3) Offered on campus: Fall, Spring. Prereq.: 3.00 GPA, and credit for or concurrent enrollment in AR 552. The student prepares and mounts a one-man show of works completed during the graduate program.

AR 561 Graduate Show—Studio Art (3) Offered on campus: Fall, Spring. Prereq.: 3.00 GPA, and credit for or concurrent enrollment in AR 554. The student prepares and mounts a one-man show of works completed during the graduate program.

AR 611 Graduate Art Research Project (3) Offered on campus: Interterm, Post-term. This course is designed to aid students in research and creating bibliographic entries. Students learn how to use the library systems.

AR 634 Professional Studio—Graphic Design (8) Offered online: Summer. Culminating the work of the M.F.A. program, the student will explore a broad range of topics related to an area of interest in design. Projects will include completion of advanced works in the student’s specialty.

AR 635 Graduate Studio—Graphic Design (4) Offered on campus: Fall, Spring. This course allows the graduate student to develop particular areas of interest in design while building a portfolio for the M.F.A. show. Individual projects will be approved by instructor.

AR 636 Graduate Studio—Graphic Design (3) Offered on campus: Fall, Spring. Prereq.: AR 634 and 635. This course is designed for the M.F.A. student to continue work on selected topics in preparation for the M.F.A. show and thesis.

AR 637 Professional Studio—Studio Art (8) Offered online: Summer. Culminating the work of the M.F.A. program, the student will explore a broad range of topics related to an area of interest in art. Projects will include completion of advanced works in the student’s specialty.

AR 638 Graduate Studio—Studio Art (4) Offered on campus: Fall, Spring. This course allows the graduate student to develop particular areas of interest in art while building a portfolio for the M.F.A. show. Individual projects will be approved by instructor.

AR 639 Graduate Studio—Studio Art (3) Offered on campus: Fall, Spring. Prereq.: AR 637 and 638. This course is designed for the M.F.A. student to continue work on selected topics in preparation for the M.F.A. show and thesis.

AR 652 Graduate Thesis (3) Offered on campus: Fall, Spring. Prereq.: AR 611. The student prepares a graduate thesis under the direction of the graduate art faculty. The thesis should present, support, and explain the artwork in the graduate show as well as demonstrate that the student has a traditional philosophy of art. In addition, the thesis may cover such areas as technique(s) employed in the graduate show and specific artists whose works have influenced the show.

AR 659 Graduate M.F.A. Thesis Exhibit (3) Offered on campus: Fall, Spring. Prereq.: 3.00 GPA, AR 652, and concurrent enrollment in AR 647. The student prepares, presents, and successfully defends the graduate M.F.A. thesis exhibit and supporting documentation.
