Hurricane Isaias Update - Thurs., Oct. 8, 4 p.m.

Current Weather Conditions

The Pensacola area is currently experiencing calm weather conditions. The students received the following information in chapel.

Hurricane Preparedness

PCC Emergency Operations is working in coordination with Escambia County Emergency Services in monitoring Hurricane Isaias.  The storm is expected to come ashore along the Gulf Coast late Friday night and continue affecting our area into Saturday. The safety and well-being of our students remain our highest priority, and PCC has been preparing for the storm in advance.

The college campus is located more than 12 miles from the Gulf Coast beaches and approximately 100 feet above sea level. As a result, our primary concerns on campus are expected to be wind and rain rather than storm surge. Our buildings are designed to meet hurricane standards, and standby generators to support campus operations even if surrounding areas experience power outages.

Before the storm arrives, Friday classes will be held online. This allows faculty and staff to prepare for the storm and keeps commuter students safely off the roads. Weekend extracurricular activities are canceled.

Students will shelter on campus in their residence halls. Campus dining and essential services are scheduled to remain available Friday as conditions permit. PCC has also prepared backup resources should the storm affect normal operations.

Updates During the Storm

If immediate action is needed, students will receive instructions through Eagle’s Nest, student email, and PCC text alerts.

Parents can monitor the PCC website and campus webcams for updates. Because hurricane forecasts can change, we encourage students and families to follow official PCC posts rather than relying on earlier forecasts or social media.

Dr. and Mrs. Shoemaker will remain on campus throughout the storm, along with PCC’s emergency operations personnel. Our students will not be facing this storm alone. We are prepared to care for them and will continue making decisions with their safety as our priority.

We appreciate your prayers for our students, faculty, staff, and the Pensacola community as we prepare for the storm. We will continue to provide updates as conditions develop.
