Biography

  • Hometown: Fredericksburg, VA (But really all over because I was a military kid.)
  • Year graduated: Undergraduate: 2011; Graduate: 2013
  • Major: Undergraduate: Secondary Education, English; Graduate: Bible Exposition
  • Favorite food: Meal: Bibim-guksu with extra kimchi (Korean noodle dish); Snack: green apples and creamy peanut butter or fresh venison jerky
  • Favorite place on campus: My family and I love seeing the different art displays at the Visual and Performing Arts building and going to concerts and dramatic productions at the Dale Horton Auditorium! It’s a great way to introduce my sons to different visual arts, dramatic storytelling, and music.
  • Favorite Bible verse: Acts 17:24–28 —“God that made the world and all things therein, seeing that he is Lord of heaven and earth, dwelleth not in temples made with hands; Neither is worshipped with men’s hands, as though he needed any thing, seeing he giveth to all life, and breath, and all things; And hath made of one blood all nations of men for to dwell on all the face of the earth, and hath determined the times before appointed, and the bounds of their habitation; That they should seek the Lord, if haply they might feel after him, and find him, though he be not far from every one of us: For in him we live, and move, and have our being; as certain also of your own poets have said, For we are also his offspring.”
  • Hobbies/interests: Playing/watching soccer with my three boys, reading a LOT, running, and gardening
  • Sports I like to play: Soccer and running
  • What attracted me to PCC: The affordable tuition
  • Advice for future students: Invest in your future! Give your best to your classes and find a good group of friends who can help you stay focused and growing but also balanced (you need breaks from academics, too!).
  • One person I would like to meet and why: William Shakespeare, because I would love to find out about his writing process and how his life and experiences influenced his brilliant works.
  • Favorite class in college: English Romantic Poetry
  • Best PCC memory: Playing Scout in a grad production of To Kill a Mockingbird
  • How I spend my free time: Playing with my kids or reading
  • Most unique places I’ve traveled: Pyrenees Mountains of southern France/Basque region of Spain
  • People would be surprised to know that I . . . know Tsalagi (Cherokee)!
  • Favorite PCC tradition: Christmas Lights
  • Favorite quotation: “The fault, dear Brutus, is not in our stars, but in ourselves, that we are underlings” — William Shakespeare, Julius Caesar
  • Ideal/favorite vacation spot: A cabin anywhere in the Appalachians of VA/TN
  • Things I can’t live without: My kids, books, trees/plants, and peanut butter
  • Fun fact: I taught K4 for 2 years and middle and high school for 11 years before becoming a Dual Enrollment Advisor. I still love teaching 4- to 5-year-olds and working with teenagers through community outreach, youth programs, and tutoring!
