Academic Achievements

Each year, PCC students enter the American Advertising Federation’s ADDY Awards competition, where they consistently earn high honors in the student category. This year was no exception, with 21 students earning 25 total awards, including a Judge’s Choice awards and the Best of Show.

Business students from multiple concentrations participate in a global Business Strategy game in one of our corporate finance classes. Students are split into teams, which compete against other teams in their industries. They’re responsible for all operational aspects of running a simulated company, and scores are generated for criteria such as stock price, earnings per share, total market share, and other financial scoring metrics. Global rankings are generated, and a list is published weekly of the top 100 teams. This year, two teams from PCC spent multiple weeks on the global 100 list. These students have been invited to participate in a global competition with other winners in world-wide industries.

The Criminal Justice physical fitness challenge presents CJ majors with an opportunity to test themselves against the same standards they’ll encounter for entrance into police academies and other law enforcement agencies. These students won this year’s contest against their peers.

Students of any major were invited to submit original work consistent with a Biblical worldview in a variety of categories. First, second, and third place winners, along with honorable mentions, were chosen, with the students listed below winning first place in their category.

The Commencement Writing Contests provide undergraduate students the opportunity to submit their best fiction, nonfiction, and poetry pieces for evaluation. The contests are open to all PCC students, and entries are judged by a faculty panel who determine the best pieces in each category.

The Robert McLaughlin Memorial Engineering Design Competition is an annual, extracurricular contest open to any engineering student. Each team selects a leader who proposes a design-build-compete contest and writes rules and specifications for teams to follow.

The Engineering Electric Vehicle race is the final design test for students in the Machine Design course sequence. Class members are divided into teams in the fall to begin design concepts, then they work together to construct their vehicles in the spring.

No kits are used in vehicle construction. Everything is designed and built by students using only basic components, raw materials, and valuable help from the PCC Maintenance welding shop.

This award is presented to the graduating nursing student who, in the estimation of the faculty and administration, best represents academic achievement, the integration of Christian principles, and the high standards in the nursing profession.

It’s given in the form of a certificate awarded during Commencement, and the recipient’s name will be engraved on a permanent plaque displayed on campus.

After submitting written sermon outlines in February, and then preaching that sermon multiple times before faculty, pastors, administrators, and peers, two recipients of this award are chosen. They both receive a beautiful Bible and were invited to preach in a recent Campus Church service.

Each year, the debate classes host a showcase where an affirmative and negative team research and discourse on a current issue.

This year’s teams debated the topic “The United Stated federal government should substantially increase its international support for global health security against naturally occurring infectious disease.” The winners presented the affirmative argument.

As part of their graduation requirements, all PCC education majors complete an internship in which they’re paired with an experienced teacher, gradually assuming responsibility for each classroom subject. They learn routines and classroom management while refining their teaching techniques.

These two students were recognized for having a strong Christian testimony, exceptional academic performance, a teachable spirit, a willingness to serve, a desire for continual improvement in their teaching skill, and a commitment to excellence in all that they completed.

Each spring, student athletes attend an Eagles awards event, where members from each team are awarded trophies for remarkable performance. Several all-department awards are also given, and recipients are determined by student athlete votes.

Collegian Awards

Collegians are student-led organizations that provide members with opportunities in four key areas, or pillars, of collegian life—unity, academics, leadership, and service. Students earn points for involvement throughout the school year.

Collegians and individuals whose achievements earned them the highest honors are awarded engraved plaques and trophies that are displayed in collegian hall.

Members of these collegians had the highest overall participation in weekly Christian Service activities like Bible clubs, nursing home ministries, door to door visitation, and a softball league for children with special needs.

Computing majors showcase software developed in their capstone project courses at the annual Software Expo. Student teams of 4–6 members collaborate to gather requirements, design the solutions, create the software, and test the final applications.
